Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2 years of acute care experience and telemetry testing prior to start.

Details

  • MS/Tele unit caring for adult med/surg patients with a variety of conditions under the Family Medicine service
  • Includes a geriatric population and Department of Corrections (DOC) patients (0-10 at any time) in a locked wing accompanied by DOC officers
  • Day/Night 12-hour shifts (0700-1930 / 1900-0730) with every other weekend rotation and holidays as needed
  • D/N rotators limited to 2 shift flips per 6-week scheduling period, with 36 hours off between flips
  • Floating required as needed
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required (AHA only)
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years in med/surg or a related specialty
  • Experience starting and maintaining IVs required
  • Epic EMR experience required, ideally within the past 12 months
  • Must pass a telemetry exam with strict passing criteria prior to starting the assignment
  • Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, port access/management, PICC line management, feeding tube care, and cardiac monitoring/dysrhythmia interpretation
  • Experience administering heparin, insulin, and PCA preferred
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE, wound care/wound vac, oxygen administration, and surgical drains preferred
  • Previous law enforcement patient care experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to a diverse med/surg population including geriatric and correctional patients
  • Work alongside DOC officers when caring for correctional patients in a secured wing
  • First-time travelers will be considered if they have five years of previous inpatient med/surg experience
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates will not be accepted
  • References are not required for consideration
  • Located at a Magnet-designated teaching hospital ranked #1 in Wisconsin
