Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Tele position requiring 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Med/Surg-Tele unit within a Level 3 Trauma teaching-affiliated hospital with 32 beds and average census of 28
  • Patient population includes total joint replacements, colon resection, gallbladder and appendectomy cases, amputations, medical overflow, hip fractures, SBO, and NG tube management
  • RN patient ratios of 1:4-6 on days and 1:5-6 on nights, with potential surge ratios up to 1:7-8
  • 12-hour night shift schedule, 1900-0700, 36 hours per week on a 6-week schedule cycle
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Low census call possible, with call-back up to 3a for nights and 3p for days
  • Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mtn, Lincoln, Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) within scope of practice
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Support staff includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Skills in cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (Cardizem/Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care for a Med/Surg-Tele patient population including post-surgical and medical overflow cases
  • Work alongside a supportive care team including CNAs, charge nurses, and dedicated IV/phlebotomy teams
  • Telemetry monitoring and tech support available on the unit
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 RTO days may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be made up at the end of the assignment
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking provided on-site
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
  • Must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible; local candidates not accepted
