Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Step Down / PCU position requiring a strong cardiac background and telemetry interpretation skills.

Details

  • High-acuity, cardiac-focused PCU unit at a hospital
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:5
  • 3x12-hour AM shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM), 36 hours per week
  • No on-call requirements
  • No ventilator patients on this unit
  • Common patient populations include heart failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, congenital heart disease, heart transplant, and LVAD patients
  • Common procedures include right and left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal/management, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
  • Floating to similar cardiac/PCU units may be required, but not to the Cardiac Monitor Tech role
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience
  • Must be able to independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt with no tech assistance
  • Experience required with cardiac drips including insulin, Milrinone, Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, and Nitroglycerin
  • Chest tube experience required
  • Must rate a "4" on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
  • Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred, with training available if needed
  • Full SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care to high-acuity cardiac patients with frequent admissions, discharges, and procedural volume
  • Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Former employees of this health system must be separated for 1 year before returning, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
  • RTO is limited to a maximum of 5 days if not falling on or near a holiday, or 3 days if it does, with only one holiday request allowed
