Description

American Traveler is seeking a Step Down RN for a high-acuity cardiac PCU unit requiring strong telemetry interpretation skills and recent cardiac experience.

Details

  • Step Down/PCU unit with a heavy cardiac focus
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12s (36 hrs/week)
  • No on-call requirements
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:5
  • High patient acuity with frequent admissions/discharges and significant procedural volume
  • No ventilator patients on this unit
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Patient population includes heart failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, heart transplant, congenital heart disease, and LVAD patients
  • Common procedures include right/left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal/management, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
  • May float to similar cardiac/PCU units as needed, but not to Cardiac Monitor Tech roles

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required in hand
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience within the past 3 years
  • Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt (no tech assistance or remediation)
  • Must have experience with cardiac drips including insulin, milrinone, dobutamine, amiodarone, heparin, lasix, and nitroglycerin
  • Must have chest tube experience
  • Must rate a 4 on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
  • Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred (training available if needed)

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care within a high-acuity cardiac step down/PCU setting
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; local candidates not accepted
  • Former Emory or Houston Methodist perm staff must be separated for at least 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
  • RTO is limited to a maximum of 5 days if not near a holiday, or 3 days if falling on/near a holiday, with only 1 holiday request allowed
