Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a high-acuity cardiac PCU position requiring 18 months of recent cardiac experience and successful completion of a dysrhythmia exam.

  • High-acuity, cardiac-focused Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:5 with frequent admissions, discharges, and procedures
  • Patient population includes heart failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, heart transplant, congenital heart disease, and LVAD patients
  • Common procedures include right/left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
  • No ventilator patients on this unit
  • 3x12-hour AM shifts totaling 36 hours per week
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating to similar cardiac/PCU units may be required, but not to Cardiac Monitor Tech positions
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt, with no tech assistance or remediation opportunities
  • Experience with cardiac drips including insulin, milrinone, dobutamine, amiodarone, heparin, lasix, and nitroglycerin required
  • Chest tube experience required
  • Must rate a 4 on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
  • Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred (training available if needed)

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care for high-acuity cardiac PCU patients
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Available start dates are every Monday
  • Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility as local candidates are not accepted
  • Former Emory or Houston staff must be separated for 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
