Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a high-acuity cardiac Step Down unit requiring strong telemetry interpretation skills and at least 18 months of recent cardiac experience.

  • High-acuity, cardiac-focused Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a hospital
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:5 with high patient acuity and frequent admissions/discharges
  • Common patient populations include heart failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, heart transplant, congenital heart disease, and LVAD patients
  • Common procedures include right and left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal/management, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
  • No ventilator patients on this unit
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • AM shift, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, 3x12-hour shifts per week (36 hours/week)
  • No on-call requirements
  • May float to similar cardiac/PCU units but not to Cardiac Monitor Tech positions

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Georgia or Compact) required
  • Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience required
  • Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt without tech assistance or remediation
  • Required experience with cardiac drips including insulin, Milrinone, Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, and Nitroglycerin
  • Chest tube experience required
  • Must rate a "4" on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
  • Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred (training available if needed)

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care within a cardiac PCU, including telemetry monitoring, drip management, and post-procedural care
  • Must be comfortable managing high cardiac acuity, telemetry requirements, and a wide range of cardiac procedures
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
  • Former Emory or Houston permanent staff must be separated for at least 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
  • RTO is limited to a maximum of 5 days if not on or near a holiday, or 3 days if on or near a holiday, with only one holiday request allowed
