Moreland serves students from preschool through 8th grade across three cities in Santa Clara County. Our teachers educate approximately 3,700 students in four elementary schools, two TK-8 schools, and one middle school. Job Summary

Perform a variety of clerical support tasks including typing, word processing, data input, record keeping, filing, and student service functions; perform related duties as assigned.

Class Characteristics

Positions in this classification are assigned to elementary and middle school sites providing general clerical support to the Secretary of Student Services and the Director of Student Services in the operation of the student services department. Assignment is as second level support staff to the Educational Services Department.

Examples of Duties

In Student Services:

  • Evaluate, maintain and update student records for students with special needs,
  • Provide routine clerical support to district health services program,
  • Perform general typing/word processing tasks, including letters, memoranda, reports, and forms; proof material for accuracy and correctness
  • Perform various copy room duties
  • Assist Secretary of Student Services in performance of certain of that position's duties, and provide relief time
  • Assist in receipt and distribution of incoming correspondence and preparation of outgoing mail
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required

In General:

  • Assist in serving as school receptionist, dealing with the public both through personal contact and by telephone
  • Perform general typing/word processing tasks, including letters, memoranda, reports, and forms; proof material for accuracy and correctness
  • Perform various copy room duties
  • Administer first aid to students and/or notify parents of ill or injured students
  • Assist School Secretary in performance of certain of that position's duties, and provide relief time
  • Assist in receipt and distribution of incoming correspondence and preparation of outgoing mail
  • May receive and process student registrations
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required

Employment Standards

Training and Experience: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Training: Equivalent to high school graduation.

Experience: Some general clerical or office experience is desirable

Knowledge of: Office practices and procedures; basic record-keeping techniques; basic data entry and word processing techniques and programs; correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; basic mathematics

Ability to: Understand and carry out oral and written instructions; learn, interpret and apply office procedures, policies, rules and regulations; perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; operate standard office machines and equipment including computer, typewriter, calculator, copier and Fax machine; type/keyboard accurately at 35 wpm; prepare computer generated spread sheets and related material; deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, poise and firmness; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties.

Physical Requirements: Vision sufficient to read fine print; hearing and speech sufficient to enable communication by telephone and in person; stamina sufficient to stand or sit for extended periods of time; mobility sufficient to move from desk to cabinets and files within a department; manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, typewriter, copier and related office equipment.

Licenses and Certification: Possession of a Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate within 90 days of employment.
