Job Description

The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for an Office Assistant 1 position at Anchorage Correctional Center (ACC) in Anchorage, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:

Provide support to the on-duty shift staff in the Booking Office by performing a variety of duties including data entry and retrieval, phone support, creation of the daily in-custody court list, disseminate pertinent information to Public, Courts and other law enforcement agencies, filing, copying and faxing of documents. This position requires an extensive knowledge of policies and working standards of a correctional booking office.

This position is standard Office Assistant I in which the incumbent will learn the full range of duties involving the use of multi-line phones, screening visits, cash handling, balancing a till, distributing mail, screening mail. Though an entry level position, there is room for growth as an Office Assistant 2 and Office Assistant 3. The duty hours are Week on / Week off 75-hour work week, 0600-1800, with an hour lunch with the shift. (Six of 11-hour days and One 9-hour day) Would work 3 months of days and 3 months of nights (1800-0600).

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D.;

OR

Acceptance in full standing by an accredited college (this includes acceptance in a concurrent enrollment or dual enrollment program);

OR

A Career Readiness Certificate with ACT WorkKeys scores of skill level 3 or higher in: Graphic Literacy (formerly Locating Information), Applied Math, and Workplace Documents (formerly Reading for Information).

Special Note:

ACT WorkKeys skill testing and career readiness certification is available at the Department of Labor and Workforce Developments Alaska Job Centers.

"Acceptance in full standing" means acceptance to a post-secondary program by a college or university and does not require enrollment or participation in the program. This includes acceptance in a program offering college credits while in high school, or both high school and college credits, but does not include taking advanced placement courses in high school.

Some positions in this class require the incumbent operate a State vehicle. Such positions require the selected candidate possess a valid drivers license and be 18 years of age or older on or before the first day of employment.

A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
