The Role

We are seeking a Laboratory Administrative Assistant to work in our Denver-based geotechnical laboratory. This role combines hands-on soil and rock testing with day-to-day lab operations support (supplies, shipping, sample inventory, and safety). It is ideal for someone who is reliable, organized, detail-oriented, and eager to learn. We are willing to train the right candidate.

You must be self-disciplined, motivated, and able to work in a team environment. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, and strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative & Task Coordination

• Create and update project numbers, including work orders and tasks in internal software system.

• Track project deadlines, follow up on outstanding items, and assist with simple scheduling.

• Maintain organized electronic and hard-copy files for lab projects, reports, and records.

Provide general clerical support (copying, scanning, data entry, mail distribution) to lab and project staff. Communicate clearly with engineers, technicians, and project managers regarding sample status, supplies, and tasks.

Basic Math and Data Science

• Assist in lab testing data reduction and data processing

• Use Microsoft excel templates to perform basic math and develop plots and charts

• Complete detailed quality assurance checks on lab reports

Supplies, Shipping, and Sample Management

• Order and maintain inventory of lab and office supplies; track deliveries and reconcile packing slips.

• Coordinate shipping and receiving of samples, equipment, and documents, including preparing labels and paperwork.

• Log incoming samples, label and track sample location(s), and help maintain an accurate sample inventory.

• Take photos of samples and upload/organize them in the appropriate project folders.

Vendor & Facility Support

• Serve as a point of contact for lab-related vendors (e.g., cleaning services, water suppliers, consumables).

• Help schedule routine services and communicate any facility or equipment issues to management.

Safety & Compliance Support

• Assist with maintaining up-to-date safety documentation and logs.

• Support the safety committee by helping with routine checks (e.g., housekeeping, eyewash station, signage) and document findings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• 1-3 years of administrative, office, and/or operations support experience preferred; lab or construction industry exposure a plus but not required.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word); ability to learn new software systems.

• Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills.

• Ability to handle multiple priorities and demonstrate strong follow-through.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to occasionally lift and move boxes or samples (up to 50 lbs.)

Summary

Compensation:

In accordance with Colorado state law, the following hourly compensation range is applicable for the job and Colorado location associated with this requisition: $23.00 to $26.00/hour. Actual compensation may vary from posted hiring range based upon compensable factors, including experience, education, and skill level.
