About this Role
Situated in Downtown's Second Street District, Austin Proper Hotel & Residences is the newest luxury lifestyle hotel in Austin, just steps from Lady Bird Lake, the legendary Austin City Limits music venue and nearby boutiques. With inspiring interiors by Kelly Wearstler and culinary offerings in collaboration with MML Hospitality, Austin Proper offers 244 rooms and suites, a dedicated spa and fitness center, and 14,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces, including a rooftop pool deck offering small-batch tequilas and majestic lake views. Anything less just wouldn't be Proper.
We are seeking a driven and highly organized Event Sales Manager to lead our Corporate Event Partnerships program. This role is primarily focused on generating and closing corporate business across our restaurant and bar outlets as well as day-use meeting space — a high-velocity position that rewards speed, precision, and the ability to close. Standard bookings are handed off to a dedicated servicing partner post-contract; however, for short-term business booked within 14 days of arrival, this manager owns the event end-to-end. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, converts inquiries quickly, and is equally comfortable at a sales desk or on the event floor.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Generation & Closing
- Identify, pursue, and close new corporate event business across Austin Proper's outlets (restaurant buyouts, private dining, rooftop events) and day-use meeting spaces
- Respond to inquiries with urgency, moving prospects through the sales cycle efficiently and decisively
- Conduct compelling site visits and presentations tailored to corporate clients and local business accounts
- Develop and maintain relationships with corporate event planners, executive assistants, and local business development contacts
- Meet and exceed monthly revenue targets across outlet and day-meeting segments
Event Handoff & Short-Term Servicing
- Execute a thorough, timely handoff to the designated servicing partner for all standard bookings, ensuring complete event details, client preferences, and operational requirements are communicated clearly
- For business booked within 14 days of the event date, assume full ownership of servicing — acting as the primary client contact, coordinating with F&B, Banquets, and Operations, and providing on-site support through execution
- Maintain a sharp eye on the booking pipeline to identify short-turn opportunities early and prepare for direct servicing as needed
- Conduct post-event follow-up on self-serviced events to assess client satisfaction and identify re-booking potential
- Build a strong working relationship with the servicing partner to ensure a seamless client experience regardless of who owns execution
Proactive Prospecting & Local Outreach
- Actively prospect for new corporate event business using sales tools and resources provided by the team, including lead generation platforms, market intelligence databases, and internal booking data
- Conduct regular outreach to businesses in the surrounding Second Street District and Downtown Austin office corridors — targeting executive assistants, office managers, corporate event planners, and team leads who book recurring meetings and entertaining
- Execute a consistent cadence of in-person visits, drop-ins, and hosted experiences at Austin Proper to convert local corporate accounts into active clients
- Identify and attend relevant local networking events, business associations, and community touchpoints to build Austin Proper's presence in the corporate market
- Maintain a disciplined, organized prospect pipeline with clear follow-up activity and conversion tracking
Market Awareness & Strategy
Market Awareness & Strategy
- Stay current on Austin's corporate event landscape, competitor offerings, and emerging business development opportunities
- Maintain thorough knowledge of Austin Proper's venue capabilities, outlet programming, and seasonal offerings
- Contribute to promotional campaigns and corporate outreach initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Sales & Marketing
Administrative & Reporting
- Maintain accurate, real-time records of all leads, bookings, and client interactions in the hotel's CRM system (Delphi or equivalent)
- Prepare sales activity reports, pipeline forecasts, and revenue recaps for the Director of Sales & Marketing
- Participate in weekly sales meetings and contribute to team-wide strategy and goal-setting
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in catering or event sales, with a strong track record in corporate markets
- Demonstrated ability to close business quickly and manage a high volume of concurrent opportunities
- Exceptional organizational skills — this role requires managing many moving pieces simultaneously without losing detail or urgency
- Strong on-site presence and client-facing confidence; you are comfortable owning the room
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM platforms; experience with Delphi or similar systems strongly preferred
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and event days as business demands
