Description

About us

The OEA Health & Wellness Initiative (OEAHWI) offers health and wellness programming for all Oregon public educators. Our work supports all Oregon public educators as individuals, together with their colleagues, and through changes to the systems they work in.

OEAHWI is intended to qualify as a tax-exempt Voluntary Employees' Beneficiary Association (VEBA) under Code § 501(c)(9) such that it is exempt from federal income tax and is administered in accordance - in short, we are not an advocacy organization and exist for the purpose of providing meaningful health and wellness benefits to Oregon public educators.

Our programs focus on five areas: career and financial well-being, connection and community building, equity-centered culture shift, mental and emotional health, and physical health. They include grants, statewide convenings, conferences, an online resource hub, and publications. Our research with educators told us that one of our biggest challenges is simply being known. That's where you come in.

The role

This is a new position, and you'll be the first person to hold it. As our Communications Manager, you'll shape how educators across Oregon find us and what they hear when they do. You'll lead our brand, social media, marketing, and stakeholder communications, and you'll build co-promotional partnerships with OEA, partner unions, state agencies, and the organizations we work with.

Because the role is new, there's real room to build. You'll help set the strategy, try things, see what works, and grow the program along with the organization. You'll report to our Plan Administrator and work closely with our leadership team and program staff.

What you'll do

  • Grow awareness of OEAHWI among educators statewide, with messaging that tells people clearly what we offer and why it matters to them.
  • Keep our brand voice and look consistent across programs, teams, and channels.
  • Tailor messages to different audiences, including educators, partners, Trustees, and allied organizations, so each one hears what's relevant to them.
  • Build and run our social media presence and an email or newsletter program.
  • Grow co-marketing and cross-promotional partnerships with OEA, partner unions, state agencies, and provider organizations to expand our reach.
  • Lead content strategy for our online resource hub, working with the colleague who facilitates our online community so that what educators ask for shapes what we create.
  • Drive communications for all of our events and programs, including grants, statewide convenings, conferences, and publications.
  • Track engagement, reach, and growth, and use what you learn to improve our approach.
  • Help turn program data into clear stories for leadership, Board members, and partners, including materials for Board and Trustee communications and the annual report.
  • Lead the development and execution of an organization-wide communications strategy and plan.
  • Collaborate effectively with the rest of the OEAHWI team.

What you bring

  • 3 or more years of communications, marketing, or content experience, ideally in education, health, or nonprofit settings.
  • Ability to ask good questions, pay attention to details and meet agreed upon deadlines.
  • Experience managing social media accounts for an organization and using analytics to guide your strategy.
  • Experience building co-marketing or partnership relationships with allied organizations, unions, or agencies.
  • Strong writing, editing, and visual design skills, with working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, or similar tools, plus broad web design and web management skills, including building and maintaining websites and online resource hubs.
  • Comfort working across several teams and programs, and making content decisions without one day-to-day supervisor.
  • A strong understanding of diversity, equity, accessibility, belonging, and trauma-informed practices, and how they show up in public communications.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to transport up to 30 lbs. required.

If you don't match every item here but the work excites you, we encourage you to apply.
