    Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Chief of Staff & Business Operations Lead to join the Global Network Delivery (GND) organization. This role is the strategic partner to the GND Director and the connective tissue between GND leadership and the mechanisms that drive decisions: operating plans, goals, business reviews, workforce plans, and the broader rhythm of business.

You will shape what GND works on, not just track it. You will act as an extension of the leader: representing them in forums, deciding what needs their attention, owning the narrative in executive documents, and telling leaders what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. You will also own the business operations engine that keeps a fast-growing global organization running with high standards.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Serve as a thought partner on org strategy, priorities, and tradeoffs. Provide candid feedback and surface blind spots.
    • Represent the leader in leadership forums and cross-org meetings; make decisions within agreed guardrails; triage what needs the leader"s time, what gets delegated, and what gets handled directly.
    • Write and own executive documents as required; prepare the leader for upward reviews and key meetings.
    • Lead ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives that do not belong to a single team, from problem definition through delivery, without direct authority.
    • Identify gaps in how the org makes decisions and design mechanisms to close them. Maintain the decision log and serve as institutional memory for commitments and rationale.
    • Build relationships across the business (Finance, HR, Talent Acquisition, and peer BizOps teams) to unblock dependencies and keep the organization"s mechanisms aligned.
    • Own org-wide communications, all-hands, and leadership offsite strategy and agendas so messaging is consistent and tied to priorities.
    • Own the organization"s operating plan process and document end to end, from inputs and stakeholder alignment to the final narrative. Partner with Finance so headcount, productivity assumptions, and cost models are aligned and defensible.
    • Own the annual goal-setting process. Ensure goals cascade from AIS priorities to org and team commitments, are measurable, and are written to a high bar. Track progress, flag risks early, and drive mid-year recalibration.
    • Own business review mechanisms. Push content beyond status updates to the strategic questions that need leadership attention. Drive pre-reads and track actions to closure.
    • Ensure insights from business reviews feed back into goals, OP planning, and metrics so mechanisms reinforce each other rather than run in isolation.
    • Design and maintain the overall cadence of planning, review, and decision-making for GND, and continuously raise the bar on governance and operational excellence.
    • Partner with leadership and HRBP on headcount strategy, org structure, and hiring targets. Track progress against workforce plans and recommend course corrections.
    • Partner with Talent Acquisition on hiring performance; act as single-threaded owner for recruiting programs.
    • Analyze employee experience signals (engagement, attrition, promotion) and drive actions that raise the bar on builder sentiment and retention. Identify leadership development opportunities.
    • Own reporting, analysis, and recommendations on employee productivity and T&E spend, including any related governance.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
