Overview
A well-established national law firm is seeking a Billing Specialist to join its Washington, DC office. This role will support a collaborative billing team and is responsible for handling a high volume of complex legal billing processes in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process a high volume of monthly bills accurately and in a timely manner
- Handle complex billing structures including:
- Split-party billing
- Multi-matter billing
- Client-level discounts and special arrangements
- Review and edit pre-bills in accordance with attorney instructions and client guidelines
- Maintain and update client billing instructions and ensure accuracy of client/matter setup
- Partner with attorneys, legal assistants, and clients to resolve billing issues
- Monitor and manage write-offs and carry forwards
- Coordinate with Accounts Payable to ensure all costs are captured
- Collaborate with Collections to resolve billing-related payment issues
- Prepare billing schedules, reporting, and analyses as needed
- Assist with special projects and process improvements
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 2+ years of legal billing experience
- Experience with e-billing platforms
- Proficiency in Aderant, Elite, or 3E
- Strong Excel skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Experience with diverse billing arrangements (flat fee, split billing, etc.)
- Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment
