Job Description Summary:

St. Louis County Counselor''s office seeks an Attorney I to join their team.

Job Description:

The Attorney I position offers the opportunity to gain experience as a Municipal Prosecutor in the St. Louis County Municipal Night Court System. This role will be able to handle faster-moving, specialized dockets along with a variety of other legal work.

Starting Salary: $70,720.00 annually and will be based on experience and qualifications.

Work Location: St. Louis County Government Center in Clayton and the North and South County Satellite Government Centers.

Hours/Schedule: Monday-Friday, day hours and may be required to work up to 2 nights per week handling the Municipal Dockets.

Hybrid Remote Information: Hybrid with in person attendance required for certain duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prosecutes ordinance violations.
  • Provides legal advice, guidance and opinions to County employees, officials and boards/commission to ensure compliance and adherence to laws.
  • May perform legal work related to administrative, transactional, litigation, legislative and other matters handled by the County Counselor's Office.
  • May handle expungement dockets, involuntary commitment hearings, administrative and SORA matters.
  • Responsible for contract drafting and review, legal research and writing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and current licensure as an Attorney by the Missouri Bar Association.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to provide effective, comprehensive legal advice.

Pre-Employment Process Requirements:

Applicants will be evaluated based on relevant education, experience, responses to supplemental questions, and other work-related information provided on the application. Resumes are supplementary and do not replace the required application.

All candidates will receive notifications regarding application status once determined. Status updates are provided via email and can be found within each candidate's Workday profile.

Only the most qualified candidates will be invited to interview. Interview scores will determine the applicant's final grade; a minimum score of 70 is required for hiring consideration. The five highest-ranking candidates will be referred to the Department Director/Appointing Authority for final selection.

Pre-Employment Screening:

Candidates extended a conditional offer must successfully complete all required pre‑employment screenings. These screenings include a drug test administered at no cost to the candidate by a certified laboratory and a background check evaluating the recency and relevance of the candidate's history to the position. Candidates must complete the drug test within 48 hours of receiving a conditional offer; failure to do so may result in withdrawal of the offer.
