Associate Attorney

Junior to Mid-Level Associate (Contested Matters - Litigation)

Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Junior to Mid-Level Associate to join our Contested Matters litigation team. The role involves supporting trial-ready litigation matters across commercial disputes, regulatory proceedings, and contested IP matters. The successful candidate will assist senior litigators with case preparation, drafting, discovery management, and strategic analysis while developing courtroom and client-facing skills. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career lawyer to grow into a more senior litigation role and broaden experience across complex contested matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support preparation and management of contested matters, including drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery responses.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare clear, persuasive memoranda and analysis on substantive law and procedural issues.
  • Assist with case strategy by reviewing facts, identifying legal theories, and contributing to litigation plans with senior attorneys.
  • Manage discovery activities: review, organize, and produce documents; coordinate with e-discovery vendors; and prepare privilege logs.
  • Prepare witness outlines, deposition summaries, and trial exhibits; assist with trial preparation and courtroom support.
  • Communicate with clients, co-counsel, and opposing counsel under supervision to coordinate timelines, requests, and case developments.
  • Maintain accurate case files and calendars, ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.
  • Participate in internal case-management meetings, track matter budgets, and support billing and timekeeping requirements.
  • Stay current on legal developments relevant to contested matters and contribute to firm knowledge-sharing and training.
  • Support IP-related contested matters when applicable, collaborating with specialists to address intersecting intellectual property issues.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • 2+ years of litigation experience at a law firm, clerkship, or in-house legal department with exposure to contested matters.
  • Demonstrated litigation skills, including drafting legal documents, conducting research, and participating in discovery and hearings.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking with an ability to synthesize facts and law into practical case strategies.
  • Proficiency with case-management and e-discovery tools; comfort learning new legal technology.
