Help patients overcome barriers to specialty care while becoming a trusted point of connection within UVA Health's HIV and Ryan White Programs.
This patient-facing coordination role supports individuals as they establish care, access essential resources, and navigate program eligibility. Working alongside physicians, nurse coordinators, and other multidisciplinary partners, the APAC combines compassionate service, healthcare coordination, and attention to socioeconomic needs to strengthen access to treatment and ongoing support.
Following successful onboarding and orientation, and after demonstrating sustained competency in the role, there may be an opportunity to work remotely one day per week.
The Role
As an Ambulatory Program Assistant Coordinator, you will play a critical role in helping newly established HIV patients enter care and connect with the resources available through the Ryan White Program. Your work will help create a more accessible and coordinated experience for patients with complex clinical and social needs.
An average day blends direct patient interaction, resource navigation, eligibility support, and close collaboration with the care team. You will work in a highly collaborative specialty environment where professionalism, organization, and thoughtful communication directly influence the patient experience.
Key responsibilities include:
Meet with newly established HIV patients and help them navigate the process of entering care.
Assess socioeconomic needs and identify appropriate case management support.
Assist patients with Ryan White Program eligibility and enrollment.
Coordinate with physicians, nurse coordinators, and other care team members to support access to treatment and services.
Serve as a knowledgeable, patient-facing representative of the Ryan White Program.
Help connect patients throughout Virginia with resources that support continuity of care.
Contribute to a culture centered on collaboration, transparency, open communication, and excellent patient care.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: 3 years clinical experience
Licensure: American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), the AMT (American Medical Technologists), NAHP (The National Association of Healthcare Professions), the ARMA (American Registry of Medical Assistants), or the NHA (National Healthcare Association).
OR
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic Requirement: Virginia Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
The pay range for this role is $20.88 - $29.03 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
