Under general supervision performs professional work involved in the inspection and enforcement or an assigned environmental health program area which may include land use, food safety, housing and institutions, recreational health, water quality, solid, liquid, and medical waster, certified unified programs, hazardous materials, childhood lead investigation, and emergency response; interprets, implements, and enforces federal, state, and local codes as they pertain to environmental health programs, provides education, reference, and assistance; and performs related duties as assigned. When assigned to a field environment: Must possess mobility to sit, stand, and walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; to reach twist, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, and grasp; to climb and descend ladders or into and out of spaces; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work, to work around machines; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone or radio.
