    Description

    Our client is a dedicated solo-practitioner law firm in Portland, Oregon, specializing in workers’ compensation and personal injury plaintiff representation. They take pride on providing compassionate, high-quality advocacy for injured workers and individuals navigating complex legal and medical systems. 
     
    They are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive, and highly organized Legal Assistant to manage the day-to-day administrative and case-management tasks of a fast-paced solo practice. As the sole support staff member, you will play a critical role in managing case files, keeping operations running smoothly, and serving as a primary point of contact for our clients.
     
    Key Responsibilities
    • Case Management: Maintain physical and digital case files from intake through resolution using practice-management software. Track deadlines, statutes of limitation, and hearing dates.
    • Medical & Billing Records: Request, follow up on, & organize medical records.
    • Client Communication: Serve as an empathetic first point of contact for clients. Provide routine case updates and gather necessary medical or employment updates.
    • Document Preparation: Draft routine correspondence, Form 801s, medical authorizations, and basic requests for administrative review review by the Workers Compensation Board or Division.
    • Administrative Support: Manage the attorney’s calendar, schedule depositions, coordinate hearings with the Oregon Workers’ Compensation Board, and handle daily digital or physical mail.
     
    Requirements
    • 1-3+ years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal, preferably in personal injury or Oregon
    • workers’ compensation law.
    • Strong familiarity with medical terminology and the process of retrieving medical records.
    • Proficiency with legal practice-management software (e.g., Prevail) and standard office suites (Microsoft 365, Adobe Acrobat).
    • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a solo-attorney environment.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Familiarity with Oregon Workers’ Compensation Board rules and filing procedures.
    • The ideal candidate has direct experience handling medical records, communicating with insurance adjusters, and navigating Oregon’s unique Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) systems.
