A well‑established California law firm with a respected Trusts & Estates practice is seeking an Estate Planning Attorney to join its team. The practice focuses on sophisticated estate planning and trust and probate administration for a diverse client base, offering attorneys the opportunity to manage matters end‑to‑end while working closely with clients and senior attorneys.
Responsibilities
Draft comprehensive estate planning documents, including revocable trusts, wills, durable powers of attorney, and advance health care directives
Draft and administer irrevocable trusts to support sophisticated gift, charitable, and life insurance planning strategies
Prepare probate petitions and related court filings and represent clients in probate proceedings
Assist clients with post‑death trust and estate administration for both taxable and non‑taxable estates, including asset marshalling and valuation, preparation of accountings, funding of subtrusts, and distribution of assets
Review estate tax returns, gift tax returns, fiduciary income tax returns, and other required tax filings
Research and prepare memoranda addressing probate matters and state and federal income, estate, gift, and generation‑skipping transfer tax issues
Communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and internal staff
Support clients with professionalism, discretion, and compassion
Maintain accurate time records with an annual billable expectation of approximately 1,500 hours
Participate in professional development opportunities, including local and national conferences
Perform additional duties as needed
Qualifications
Active California Bar membership in good standing; LL.M. in Taxation preferred
Two or more years of experience in estate planning and post‑death trust and probate administration
Strong drafting, research, and organizational skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with document management systems preferred
