Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Oncology RN for a night shift teaching hospital assignment requiring 2 years of acute care experience and prior surgical oncology background.

Details

  • Surgical Oncology unit within a teaching hospital environment
  • Cares for patients with known cancer diagnoses requiring surgical intervention for disease or complication management, primarily abdominal/pelvic (Gynecologic, Colorectal, Pancreatic, Liver, Stomach)
  • Focus on helping patients achieve post-op milestones for discharge
  • No chemotherapy or biotherapy administered on this unit
  • 36 staffed beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6, which may flex up based on staffing and unit needs
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:00), various days of the week
  • Weekend shifts required per unit needs
  • Floating required within scope, including to sister facilities based on facility needs
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active RN license (CO or Compact)
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum 2 years acute care experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience required (hard stop requirement)
  • Trauma Level I experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skilled in IV therapy/infusions, central line and port care, and blood/blood product administration
  • Experience managing oncologic emergencies such as sepsis and anaphylaxis
  • Experience with symptom management including nausea/vomiting, altered mental status, and dysphagia
  • Skilled in wound care, ostomy management, chest tube care, and tracheostomy management
  • Experience with PCA pump management and IV push narcotic administration
  • Knowledge of neutropenic precautions and isolation/PPE protocols

Additional Information

  • Provide post-surgical oncology nursing care and support patients toward discharge milestones
  • Coordinate care and provide patient/family education and psychosocial support
  • Navy scrub color required
  • First-time travelers accepted, provided they have teaching hospital experience
  • Candidates previously employed by UCHealth or its affiliates within the last two years are not eligible for consideration
  • Returning travelers who completed a full year on assignment in this OR are not eligible for rebooking for at least one year
  • Maximum of 10 RTO days approved per 13-week contract, with blackout periods during select weeks in summer, fall, and winter
  • No blocked scheduling requests allowed
  • Completion of facility-specific training modules required within the first week of assignment
  • Local candidates accepted
