Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Surgical Oncology unit requiring 2 years of acute care experience and prior teaching hospital experience at a Trauma Level I facility.

Details

  • Surgical Oncology unit within a hospital setting
  • 36 staffed beds on the unit
  • Patients admitted primarily for surgical management of GYN oncology, colorectal, pancreatic, liver, and stomach cancers
  • Unit does not administer chemotherapy or biotherapy; chemo certification not required
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6, which may flex up based on staffing and unit needs
  • Rotating day and night shifts (3x12 hours), various days of the week
  • Weekend shifts required per unit needs
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within scope, including to sister facilities as needed
  • Uses Epic for charting
  • Navy scrub color required

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Colorado or Compact)
  • Current BLS certification (AHA)
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience required
  • Trauma Level I hospital experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Experience with IV therapy, central line and port care, and infusion pump management
  • Skilled in symptom management for oncology patients, including altered mental status, nausea/vomiting, and dysphagia
  • Experience recognizing and responding to oncologic emergencies such as sepsis and anaphylaxis
  • Experience with post-surgical care, wound care, and ostomy/colostomy management
  • Experience with pain management including IV push narcotics and PCA pump management

Additional Information

  • Provide post-operative surgical oncology care to help patients achieve discharge milestones
  • Support patients and families with psychosocial care, including education and end-of-life discussions
  • Complete all facility-specific training modules within the first week of assignment
  • First-time travelers accepted only if they have teaching hospital experience
  • Maximum of 10 RTO days approved per 13-week contract, with blackout periods during select weeks
  • No blocked scheduling requests permitted
  • Candidates previously employed by the health system or its affiliates must disclose this information
  • Local candidates accepted
