Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Renal PCU/Stepdown position requiring renal/dialysis specialty experience and a Missouri or compact RN license in hand.

Details

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) specializing in renal transplant and nephrology patients
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours, 18:45 to 07:15
  • Patient ratio of 1:5, with rare flexing to 1:6
  • Transplant patients require 2:1 ratio for first 48 hours
  • Weekend requirement of 8 shifts in a 6-week schedule, combination of Friday/Saturday/Sunday
  • Holiday shifts and charge RN assignments as needed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Contracted dialysis service in place, so hemodialysis is not performed by unit RNs
  • Epic EMR used for charting
  • 456 staffed beds at a tertiary care, Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital

Requirements

  • Active Missouri or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • Both Kansas and Missouri (or compact) licensure required due to floating requirements
  • BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • 2 years of recent renal/PCU specialty experience required, including a full year within the past 12 months with no employment gaps greater than 90 days
  • Experience required in renal transplant, PD catheters, hemodialysis management, drains, TPN, wound care, diabetic encephalopathy, acute renal rejection, and thymoglobulin administration
  • Experience required in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry, and Rapid Response Team utilization
  • Experience required in IV insulin protocols, central/peripheral/PICC line management, port access, blood product administration, and IV starts
  • Experience required in Heparin protocols, PCA, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions/PPE
  • Preferred experience with CVA, surgical drains, chest tubes, tracheostomy management, and thymo titration
  • Teaching hospital and Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • SSN required at time of consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide specialized nursing care to renal/PCU patients including transplant, dialysis management, and wound care
  • Charge RN responsibilities may be assigned as needed per unit
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; no local candidates accepted
  • Maximum RTO of 7 days, with all requests finalized at time of submission and no changes allowed post-offer
  • Returning staff must have a 3-month break in service after 18 months of tenure
  • Former permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both within the past year
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
