  • Unit Profile: 24-bed progressive care setting with an estimated patient ratio of approximately 1:3–4
  • Float Requirement: Float to other units within the organization as needed
  • Charting: Epic electronic medical record (EMR)

PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • At least 1 year of recent PCU, stepdown, progressive care, or closely related acute-care nursing experience
  • Valid RN license in hand at the time of submission, either an Ohio license or a qualifying compact license
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Recent Epic experience
  • Strong IV-start and telemetry nursing skills
  • Experience caring for patients requiring cardiac monitoring, respiratory support, insulin or heparin protocols, and complex medical management
  • Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
  • Ability to float between units and adapt to changing patient-care needs
  • Two professional references, including at least one reference from a manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader

Progressive Care RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a high-acuity progressive care environment
  • Assess patients, develop and update individualized care plans, and evaluate clinical outcomes
  • Monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias while promptly escalating changes in patient condition
  • Manage IV and central-line care, PICC lines, ports, blood products, surgical drains, feeding tubes, and wound care
  • Administer and monitor therapies including insulin and heparin protocols, oxygen, high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, and other noninvasive airway support
  • Care for patients with renal failure, seizure disorders, traumatic brain injuries, substance withdrawal, and complex medical diagnoses
  • Perform phlebotomy, start and maintain peripheral IVs, interpret ABGs, and respond to changing respiratory and hemodynamic needs
  • Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate safe, efficient, and patient-centered care
  • Float to other units as assigned while maintaining professional standards and continuity of care
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in Epic
