Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (PCU RN) – Columbus, Ohio Travel Contract

  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 36 hours per week
  • Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
  • Scheduling: Weekdays and some weekends; rotating holidays required
  • Patient Population: Adult patients in a 30-bed progressive care unit
  • Typical Patient Ratio: 1:3–4
  • Charting: EPIC experience required
  • Float Requirement: Float to units of similar or lower acuity as needed

Progressive Care Unit RN Job Requirements

  • At least 2 years of progressive care, PCU, step-down, or telemetry nursing experience
  • Active compact or Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license in hand at the time of submission
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Graduate of an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
  • Recent experience caring for adult cardiac or telemetry patients preferred
  • Proficiency with IV starts, telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, oxygen administration, peripheral line care, and non-invasive airway management
  • Experience with conscious sedation and cardiac monitoring preferred
  • Ability to provide two professional references, including at least one manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, rotating holidays, and float assignments

PCU Travel Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to adult patients in a progressive care and lower-acuity cardiac setting
  • Assess patient conditions, recognize clinical changes, and initiate appropriate interventions
  • Monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias while supporting timely escalation of care
  • Administer medications, manage peripheral lines, and perform treatments according to clinical standards
  • Care for patients with arrhythmias, syncope, chest pain, congestive heart failure, endocarditis, post-CABG recovery, valve repair, and other complex cardiac conditions
  • Support patients undergoing or recovering from cardioversions, cardiac catheterizations, sheath management, pacemaker procedures, arrhythmia ablations, and anti-arrhythmic medication loading
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation, social services, and rapid response teams
  • Use EPIC to accurately document assessments, interventions, care plans, and patient responses
  • Float to units of similar or lower acuity while maintaining high standards of patient care and teamwork
  • Follow infection prevention practices, safety standards, and applicable clinical policies and procedures
