Progressive Care Registered Nurse Requirements

  • At least 1 year of recent Registered Nurse experience in a PCU, progressive care, step-down, intermediate care, or telemetry setting
  • Active Ohio or compact Registered Nurse license in hand at the time of submission
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Demonstrated experience monitoring telemetry patients and interpreting dysrhythmias
  • Ability to successfully complete a telemetry competency assessment
  • Epic electronic medical record experience required
  • Experience caring for adult and geriatric patients, including post-surgical and general medical populations
  • Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
  • Two professional references, including at least one reference from a manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
  • Ability to complete required credentialing and Ohio fingerprinting promptly following acceptance
  • Annual influenza vaccination required; medical exemptions may be considered

PCU Travel Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients in a surgical progressive care and step-down environment
  • Continuously monitor telemetry and recognize changes in cardiac rhythm or patient condition
  • Manage patients recovering from bariatric, colorectal, and other surgical procedures, as well as general medical patients and post-surgical overflow
  • Administer medications and manage insulin and heparin protocols according to established standards
  • Provide central line, PICC, peripheral line, surgical drain, wound, and wound-vac care
  • Perform phlebotomy, initiate and maintain IV access, and support non-invasive airway and oxygen therapy
  • Collaborate with rapid response teams and interdisciplinary partners, including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, social services, and IV services
  • Use appropriate isolation precautions and personal protective equipment
  • Float to other suitable units within the organization when operational needs require
  • Educate patients and families, document care accurately in Epic, and promote safe transitions of care
