Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced PCU RN with 2+ years of stepdown/med-surg experience and BLS/ACLS certification for a 13-week assignment at a teaching hospital.

Details

  • 31-bed mixed acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU) supporting medicine services
  • Cares for a blend of stepdown and med/surg patients
  • Standard Med-Surg assignments are typically 4:1 and PCU assignments are typically 3:1
  • Travelers may occasionally be assigned a 5:1 Med-Surg patient load due to unit flexing practices
  • Day shift (3x12 hours, 7:00 AM-7:30 PM) or Night shift (3x12 hours, 7:00 PM-7:30 AM) available
  • 13-week assignment length
  • Float required within the OSU organization as needed
  • Charge-capable required on night shift
  • Uses EPIC for documentation
  • Uses Omnicell medication dispensing system

Requirements

  • Active Ohio or Compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Comfortable managing CPAP/BiPAP and medication titrations
  • Experience with respiratory care including chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care, and oxygen administration
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of rapid response/code teams
  • Experience with wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions/PPE, and peripheral line management
  • Experience with heparin protocols, PCA, and titrating cardiac drips
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least one from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role and the second from a Charge RN or leadership (no coworker references accepted)

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to a mixed acuity population requiring stepdown and med/surg level nursing
  • Unit follows unionized staffing guidelines, and travelers are typically first to be flexed to different assignments as needed
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible to be hired as a traveler
  • RTO must be requested and built into the contract at time of consideration, limited to 7 days or less
