Description

American Traveler is hiring a night-shift RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) requiring VA or compact RN licensure and prior PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience.

Details

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting within an acute care teaching hospital
  • Specializes in Hospitalist Medicine patients with renal and other medical diagnoses, plus one bed dedicated to chronic vent patients
  • Also serves as an alternative unit for gastrointestinal, pulmonary, and other surgical or procedural patients
  • Cares for adult and geriatric patients with a 1:5 patient ratio
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45pm-7:15am
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Floating required within skillset

Requirements

  • Active VA State or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for single-state, non-compact candidates)
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required, 2 years preferred
  • Experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown settings required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and cardiac drip management (without titration)
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
  • Experience with rapid response/code teams and isolation precautions/PPE
  • Previous charge experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to PCU patients including cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, and respiratory support
  • Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
  • Must work 1 holiday per 13-week contract
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted; radius-based eligibility and bill rate rules apply based on distance from the facility
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have completed 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with limited exceptions reviewed case-by-case
  • All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted in advance
  • Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center (adult and pediatric), certified stroke center, and Magnet-designated for nursing excellence
