Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Stroke/Neuro Progressive Care Unit position requiring active VA or compact RN licensure and prior Neuro PCU experience.

Details

  • Telemetry PCU/stepdown unit specializing in hospitalist medicine, stroke, and neurology patients
  • Joint Commission certified primary stroke center within a Level I Trauma Center and teaching hospital
  • Typical patient ratio of 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4
  • Night shift schedule of 3x12 hours (6:45 PM-7:15 AM)
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule block
  • Required to work one holiday per 13-week contract
  • Floating required within skillset across PCU, IMC, and stepdown units
  • Remote telemetry monitoring with tele-sitting support for increased Patient Care Tech coverage
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active VA state or compact RN license required; single-state license from a non-compact state may be considered pending
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required, preferably at a 250+ bed or larger facility
  • Neuro PCU experience required
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Experience managing cardiac drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration)
  • Experience with respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE protocols

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care for stroke and neuroscience patients within an acute hospitalist medicine unit
  • First-time travelers considered if candidate has strong experience at a similar facility, though prior travel experience preferred
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a break of at least one year before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have completed 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, with limited leadership-approved exceptions
  • Local candidates accepted, subject to radius-based eligibility and pay rate criteria
  • All RTO requests must be submitted upfront prior to assignment start
  • Facility may cancel up to one shift per two-week period
