PACU RN Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,890–$1,990
• Specialty: Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nursing
• Setting: 38-bay PACU and pre-surgical unit providing 24/7 perianesthesia care
• Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients, with some pediatric patients
• Location: Portland, Oregon 97239
• Start Date: October 13, 2026
• End Date: January 12, 2027
• Duration: 13-week contract nursing assignment
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours
• Scheduling: Consistent night scheduling with flexibility needed; weekend coverage may vary
• Orientation: 40 hours
• Additional Details: Floating to other units or nearby affiliated facilities may be required based on operational needs

Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Oregon
• At least 2 years of recent RN experience in PACU, adult or pediatric ICU, or a high-acuity emergency department
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications through the American Heart Association; traditional AHA certification is required
• CCRN certification is preferred
• Recent Epic electronic health record (EHR) charting experience is required
• Demonstrated ability to care for patients requiring continuous monitoring, airway support, vasoactive medications, and rapid clinical intervention
• Strong assessment, prioritization, communication, and emergency response skills
• Flexibility to support weekend, holiday, and unit coverage needs

PACU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide Phase I post-anesthesia care to patients recovering from ambulatory, acute care, critical care, and complex surgical procedures
• Perform comprehensive assessments and monitor airway, respiratory, neurologic, cardiovascular, and pain status
• Care for ventilated patients and manage arterial lines, central lines, IV vasopressors, and other critical care equipment
• Recognize and respond to dysrhythmias, hemodynamic changes, airway emergencies, and other postoperative complications
• Manage pain, sedation, nerve blocks, PCA pumps, reversal agents, narcotic and opioid analgesics, and post-epidural recovery
• Administer blood products and medications safely while following unit protocols, including malignant hyperthermia procedures when indicated
• Initiate and maintain peripheral IV access and support safe transitions to inpatient units or discharge home
• Document patient care accurately in Epic and collaborate with anesthesia, surgery, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rapid response, and other interdisciplinary teams
• Maintain a calm, compassionate, and safety-focused environment for patients and families throughout the perioperative recovery process
