• Shift: Night shift, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
• Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week; approximately 36 hours per week
• Unit: 38-bay PACU and pre-surgical unit providing 24/7 perianesthesia care
• Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients, with some pediatric patients
• Weekend Coverage: Required; schedule may include weekends, holidays, and night coverage support
• Charting: Epic experience required

PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Oregon
• At least 2 years of recent nursing experience in PACU, ICU, critical care, or a high-acuity emergency department
• Experience caring for patients recovering from anesthesia and complex surgical or procedural interventions
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications through the American Heart Association; traditional AHA certification required
• Epic electronic health record experience
• Strong assessment, prioritization, and clinical decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to provide safe care for patients requiring ventilator management, invasive monitoring, IV vasopressors, and advanced recovery interventions
• Flexibility to float within the assigned organization or to nearby affiliated units as needed

PACU Nursing Responsibilities

• Provide Phase I post-anesthesia care for patients following surgical and procedural interventions
• Perform comprehensive assessments and monitor airway, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurologic, and pain status during recovery
• Care for patients across a broad range of acuity levels, from routine ambulatory procedures to complex trauma and critical care cases
• Manage ventilated patients, arterial lines, central lines, IV vasopressors, nerve blocks, epidurals, PCA pumps, and invasive monitoring equipment
• Recognize and respond to dysrhythmias, changes in level of consciousness, hemodynamic instability, and other post-anesthesia complications
• Administer blood products, reversal agents, narcotic and opioid analgesics, and other medications according to established protocols
• Support care for patients undergoing general, vascular, neurologic, orthopedic, gynecologic, ENT, ophthalmologic, thoracic, spinal, and other procedures
• Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Document patient assessments, interventions, response to treatment, and discharge or transition readiness accurately in Epic
• Maintain a safe, organized environment while adapting to changing patient needs and unit priorities
