Description

American Traveler is hiring a night-shift RN for an Ortho-Neuro Med/Surg unit requiring prior orthopedic patient experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit specializing in Ortho-Neuro patients
• 33-bed unit with all private rooms
• Patient ratio of 1 to 6
• Patient population includes elective ortho surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders), fall-related fractures, neuro-surgical spine and neck cases, and general Med/Surg diagnoses
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour night shifts, 1900-0730 with a half-hour lunch break
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Fri/Sat/Sun for nights)
• Holiday coverage required based on unit staffing needs
• May be subject to low census call-off depending on contract terms
• Travelers float first, primarily to other Med/Surg units, and to Tele units within skillset if needed
• Remote telemetry monitoring available if needed; RNs are not required to read strips
• Charge nurse coverage 24/7, with night charge always carrying a full patient assignment
• Unit supported by Patient Care Techs performing vitals, FSBS, ADLs, and Foley discontinuation

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Experience with orthopedic patients required
• Experience with PCA pumps required
• Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to ortho and neuro Med/Surg patients, including IV fluid and PCA pump management
• Orientation includes 1 day of EPIC training followed by 1 day on the floor with a preceptor before working independently
• Scrub color is royal blue; scrub jackets are optional but must be true scrub jackets in royal blue (no hoodies or sweat-jackets)
• RTs manage CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow equipment when needed
• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible as a traveler
• Former travelers at any WVU Medicine facility must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers cannot work within WVU Medicine facilities for longer than a cumulative year without a 2-year break
