Unit Overview

St. David's Medical Center Operating Room is a 22-OR department supporting a wide range of surgical specialties. The facility is not a trauma hospital and maintains an in-house OR team 24/7.

The department has approximately 80 staff members and provides a collaborative environment with a strong focus on teamwork and quality patient care.

Staffing

Day Shift:

  • Staffing is structured to support all 22 ORs.

  • 1 Charge RN

  • RN and support staff based on OR needs

  • One OR team remains in-house at all times.

Night Shift:

  • 1 OR team in-house 24/7

Patient Ratio

  • 1:1

Surgical Specialties

The OR provides services across multiple specialties, including:

  • Robotics

  • Cardiac

  • Vascular

  • Neurosurgery

  • Spine

  • Oncology

  • Orthopedics

  • Plastics

  • Urology

  • GYN

Required Skills & Qualifications

Registered Nurse License, BLS , ACLS 

For CST Candidates:

  • CST certification is required

  • Neuro/Spine experience required
     

For Cardiac RN/CST Candidates:

  • Cardiac experience is required

Preferred Experience:

  • Multiple surgical service lines

  • Orthopedics

  • Neuro

  • General Surgery

  • Robotic Surgery

Typical Procedures

The department performs a wide variety of procedures, including:

  • Appendectomies

  • Cholecystectomies

  • Spine fusions

  • Total joint replacements

  • Craniotomies

  • Mastectomies

  • DIEP flaps

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should be:

  • Flexible and adaptable

  • Comfortable working across multiple surgical specialties

Call / Schedule Requirements

  • 4–5 call shifts per 6-week period minimum

  • 4–5 late shifts per 6-week period

  • Weekend shifts are available
