Contract | Days | 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM | Expected 1–2 weekends per schedule rotation (may include both weekend days, with days off before and/or after)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform occupational therapy evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans for patients with orthopedic, neurological, and general medical diagnoses across all age groups
- Provide treatment interventions, modalities, FIM scoring, and ongoing assessment and adjustment of treatment plans for medically complex and often medically unstable patients
- Monitor and interpret vital signs, apply knowledge of indications and contraindications, and maintain awareness of vital medical equipment during patient care
- Manage a high-volume caseload of approximately 4–5 patients per day (volume may vary) within a 21-bed unit, prioritizing and rescheduling dynamically as patient needs change
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team regarding discharge planning, patient safety, scheduling, and hand-off communication; recommend appropriate discharge destinations
- Complete computerized documentation and may supervise certified occupational therapist assistants, aides, and students as applicable
Required Qualifications
- Active Occupational Therapist license in the state of South Dakota (or eligibility)
- Knowledge of and adherence to the South Dakota Occupational Therapy Practice Act and Administrative Rules
- Ability to evaluate and treat medically complex patients requiring advanced critical thinking across multiple diagnoses
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills to manage a fast-paced, dynamic schedule across multiple areas of a hospital setting
- Effective communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration, discharge planning, and patient safety

Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in acute care or inpatient rehabilitation settings
- Familiarity with computerized charting systems and specialty equipment such as UE Bioness and Dynavision
- Experience supervising COTAs, therapy aides, or students
- Experience managing high-acuity, medically unstable patient populations
