Contract | Days | 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM | Expected 1–2 weekends per schedule rotation (may include both Saturday and Sunday, with days off before and/or after the weekend)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform occupational therapy evaluations and deliver individualized treatment interventions for patients across a variety of diagnoses including orthopedic, neurological, and general medical conditions
- Manage a high-volume, dynamic caseload (average 4–5 patients per day) in an acute care and inpatient rehab setting with 21 beds, requiring constant prioritization and rescheduling
- Complete thorough documentation using computerized charting systems; administer FIM assessments and utilize available equipment including UE Bioness and Dynavision
- Monitor and interpret vital signs, recognize indications and contraindications, and apply advanced critical thinking skills when treating medically complex and unstable patients
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure patient safety, facilitate discharge planning, coordinate scheduling, and promote effective hand-off communication
- May supervise certified occupational therapy assistants, aides, and students as they provide patient care and treatment
Required Qualifications
- Active Occupational Therapist licensure in the state of South Dakota (or eligibility)
- NBCOT certification required
- Experience evaluating and treating medically complex patients in an acute care environment
- Knowledge of normal and abnormal vital signs, medical equipment awareness, and understanding of indications and contraindications relevant to acute care therapy
- Strong critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage a fast-paced, flexible schedule

Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in inpatient acute care and/or acute rehabilitation settings
- Familiarity with FIM scoring and computerized clinical documentation systems
- Experience with modalities and specialized equipment such as UE Bioness or Dynavision
- Experience supervising OTAs, therapy aides, or clinical students
