Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Surgical ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year of ICU experience License: Active Illinois nursing license or confirmation of application process Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Level I trauma and ICU experience Description: The unit typically has a patient ratio of 1:2, but could require 1:1 or 1:3 in certain cases. Common patient diagnoses include post-surgical cases, open abdomens, multi-system trauma, and endovascular patients. Registered nurses are required to titrate various medications including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin. A charge nurse and house supervisor are present on each shift, and the charge nurse may take an assignment as staffing allows. Patient care technicians are available with a ratio of 1:10. Intensivists are available in-house 24/7, providing continuous care and support through telemedicine. Respiratory therapists are also present in the ICU 24/7, utilizing vents, CPAP, and Bipap equipment. There are monitor techs available on the unit, and nurses are responsible for interpreting their own telemetry strips. The shifts are from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Weekend requirements include six shifts within a six-week period. Holiday requirements involve working every other holiday. There is no requirement for on-call or standby shifts. Floating may occur, wherein the traveler would take a full patient assignment based on the unit's needs. Dress code does not specify any particular colors. Unit-specific orientation will be provided, including EPIC training and shadowing a preceptor.
