Registered nurses are required to titrate various medications including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin. A charge nurse and house supervisor are present on each shift, and the charge nurse may take an assignment as staffing allows. Patient care technicians are available with a ratio of 1:10. Intensivists are available in-house 24/7, providing continuous care and support through telemedicine. Respiratory therapists are also present in the ICU 24/7, utilizing vents, CPAP, and Bipap equipment. There are monitor techs available on the unit, and nurses are responsible for interpreting their own telemetry strips. The shifts are from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Weekend requirements include six shifts within a six-week period. Holiday requirements involve working every other holiday. There is no requirement for on-call or standby shifts. Floating may occur, wherein the traveler would take a full patient assignment based on the unit's needs. Dress code does not specify any particular colors.
