Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: IMC Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years in acute care License: RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Telemetry experience required Vent and transplant experience required Description: Traveler will work in both the IMC Acute Med/Progressive Care unit and the IMC Thoracic unit. 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Monday through Friday, with every other weekend and some holidays required. Telemetry oncology, cardiac, and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience is required. The traveler will be required to pass a telemetry test before starting. ICU or IMC and surgical post-op experience is required. Thoracic experience is preferred. The role involves caring for patients with lung and esophageal diseases, lobectomies, decortications, esophagectomies, and other thoracic procedures. Assisting with procedures such as chest tube insertion in the procedure room is required. The candidate should engage in acquiring new skills and integrate evidence-based nursing practices into the unit culture. The ability to work with a dynamic general care/IMC unit utilizing strong teamwork while providing compassionate care and employing critical thinking is essential. Travelers are required to float as needed. Candidates must have two years of acute care experience within the last three years in the specialty they are applying for. Pass/fail testing is required with strict passing criteria. The following criteria must be met within two attempts for the telemetry exam: Adult Exam: 100% identification of lethal rhythms: ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and asystole. No incorrect answers on questions regarding third-degree heart blocks. Passing score of 80% or higher is required. Pediatric Exam: identification of ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, asystole, and sinus bradycardia. A passing score of 80% or higher is required. If the traveler fails the second attempt, they will need to submit a certificate of completion of a cardiac interpretation review course before a third attempt is assigned. If the traveler does not pass after three attempts, the assignment will be canceled. The facility is recognized as a leading hospital and teaching institution. Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretaries. The patient age groups include adults and geriatrics. Daily census averages around seven patients. Special procedures and diagnoses within the unit involve esophagectomies, lung volume reduction surgery, wedge resection surgery, cardiac surgery stepdown patients, and hospitalist patients.
