Job Opportunity – Oncology Progressive Care Registered Nurse – Ohio

Schedule: 12-hour rotating day/night shifts; ratio of 1:3 for PCU patients and 1:4-5 for Med-Surg Telemetry patients; shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing needs; weekend coverage variable based on unit requirements

Highlights:

• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care
• Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
• High-acuity PCU environment with a small volume of medical-surgical patients; oncology experience preferred but not required
• Epic charting system with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including pharmacy, respiratory services, physical therapy, and rapid response teams
• 72-hour orientation period to ensure successful transition to the unit
• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention strategies

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• Current acute care experience required (actively working in the last 12 months)
• Active RN license (Compact or Ohio state license required at time of submission)
• Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Epic EMR charting experience required
• Nursing education from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Willingness to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed

Essential Clinical Skills:

• Interpretation of dysrhythmias and cardiac monitoring using GE telemetry system
• Port access and management, central line care, PICC line management, and peripheral IV insertion
• Blood product administration and heparin protocols
• PCA pump management and cardiac drip management (titration experience preferred)
• Respiratory support including High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP/CPAP, and tracheostomy management
• Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), feeding tube care, and continuous bladder irrigation
• Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) and use of rapid response teams

Preferred Skills:

• Chemotherapy administration and monitoring
• IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
• Wound care and wound vacuum management
• Arterial line management and surgical drain care
• Phlebotomy skills

Special Equipment:

• GE telemetry monitoring system (B450 monitors)
• Alaris IV pumps and PCA pumps
• Stryker beds and bladder scanners
• Continuous bladder irrigation systems
