Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for our Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in critical care settings, particularly with arterial lines and vasoactive drips. This role requires the ability to manage complex patient diagnoses and provide high-quality nursing care in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret telemetry readings, recognizing and managing dysrhythmias.
• Administer and titrate vasoactive drips, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.
• Provide care for patients in respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, and post-operative recovery.
• Utilize Rapid Response Teams as necessary for critical patient care.
• Manage IV insulin protocols and blood products while ensuring proper line care for central and peripheral access.
• Oversee tracheostomy care and non-invasive airway management.
• Engage with care plans that address complex patient needs across diverse populations including adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, specifically in a PCU, DOU, IMC, Stepdown, or similar setting.
• Accepts first-time travelers and locals with a rate difference.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIH Stroke Scale.
• Experience with IV starts, telemetry, and conscious sedation.

Scheduling & Requirements

• Target nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3-4.
• Available for a 13-week assignment or longer, with flexible scheduling options of 36 or 48 hours per week.
• Night shifts of 12 hours (18:45 - 07:15).
• Float to sister unit (ICCU) as needed.
• Must work every other weekend.
• Attend mandatory orientation classes during the first week of employment.
• Must successfully pass EKG Testing prior to start.

Patient Care Details

The unit provides care for 18 patients with a capacity of 20 beds, focusing on post Rapid Response Team patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal symptoms, GI bleeds, and postoperative recovery across various surgery types including GYN, GU, GI, thoracic, and orthopedic surgeries. Pre/post OB care with complications such as Pitocin administration is also provided.

Special Equipment

Utilizes bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup. Nurses must demonstrate proficiency in recognizing and managing dysrhythmias. Additional equipment includes a-lines, BIPAPs, and chest tubes; however, no ventilators are used in this unit.

Uniform

Nurses are required to wear navy and white scrubs or a combination of the two.
