Travel PCU Registered Nurse (RN) – Surgical Oncology Contract in Columbus, Ohio
Travel PCU Registered Nurse (RN) needed for a 16-week surgical oncology assignment in Columbus, Ohio. Care for adult and geriatric patients in a busy, mixed-acuity Progressive Care Unit while gaining experience with complex oncology and surgical cases. Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,940–$2,040
- Assignment Length: 16 weeks
- Start Date: November 16, 2026
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Healthcare Setting: Mixed-acuity surgical oncology PCU and medical-surgical unit
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, approximately 36 hours per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour night shifts, generally 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
- Weekend Coverage: Variable according to unit needs
- Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
- Unit Profile: Approximately 36 beds with a typical staffing goal of 1 nurse to 4 patients; ratios may occasionally reach 1:5
- Electronic Medical Record: EPIC
- Floating: May float to other acute-care oncology units within scope of practice
PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of current acute-care Registered Nurse experience, including at least 1 year of PCU, stepdown, DOU, or IMC experience
- Recent and consistent acute-care nursing experience within the past 12 months
- Active compact or Ohio Registered Nurse license in hand at the time of application
- Graduate of an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Strong experience with cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia recognition and management, BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, tracheostomy care, and telemetry monitoring
- Experience caring for surgical oncology, hepatobiliary, colorectal, plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery, or cardiothoracic surgery patients
- Ability to manage chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin and heparin infusions, chest tubes, and oncologic emergencies
- ONS chemotherapy certification preferred
- Two professional references required, including at least one reference from a manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
- Flexibility to work variable weekends and float when needed
Progressive Care Unit RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with mixed medical-surgical and PCU acuity
- Care for patients with breast, thyroid, melanoma, liver, pancreatic, splenic, biliary, neuroendocrine, colorectal, reconstructive, orthopedic, and cardiothoracic surgical diagnoses
- Monitor patients using cardiac telemetry and promptly identify changes in rhythm or clinical condition
- Administer and monitor chemotherapy, blood products, IV antibiotics, insulin infusions, and heparin infusions according to established protocols
- Recognize and respond to oncologic emergencies, including cytokine release syndrome
- Perform chest tube and tracheostomy care, respiratory support management, and other PCU nursing interventions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate assessments, treatments, patient education, and discharge planning
- Promote infection prevention, fall prevention, patient safety, and high-quality patient outcomes
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in EPIC
- Adapt to changing patient acuity and support other acute-care oncology units when assigned
