PCU Travel Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of current acute care nursing experience, including a minimum of 1 year of PCU, progressive care, stepdown, intermediate care, or similar experience
- Recent and consistent PCU or acute care Registered Nurse experience within the past 12 months
- Current Registered Nurse license valid for practice in Ohio or a valid compact nursing license in hand
- Graduate of an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Epic charting experience
- Experience with cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, tracheostomy care, and telemetry monitoring
- Strong surgical and acute care assessment skills; experience caring for complex surgical patients is required
- ONS chemotherapy certification is preferred
- Willingness to float to other acute care oncology units within the nurse’s scope of practice
PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for adult and geriatric patients in a fast-paced, mixed-acuity Progressive Care Unit
- Care for patients with surgical oncology diagnoses involving breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal, reconstructive, and sarcoma-related conditions
- Manage patients recovering from cardiothoracic and orthopedic surgeries
- Administer and monitor chemotherapy, IV antibiotics, blood transfusions, insulin drips, and heparin drips according to established protocols
- Recognize and respond to oncologic emergencies, including cytokine release syndrome
- Perform cardiac and telemetry monitoring, interpret dysrhythmias, and promptly escalate changes in patient condition
- Provide chest tube care, tracheostomy management, respiratory support, and other specialized PCU nursing interventions
- Maintain a strong focus on infection prevention, fall prevention, patient safety, and accurate clinical documentation
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory services, pharmacy, rehabilitation, radiology, IV teams, social services, and rapid response resources
- Adapt to variable weekend scheduling and support staffing needs through appropriate floating within scope of practice
