Registered Nurse / Operating Room

Shift Details

Day shift consisting of 5 eight-hour shifts (07:00 - 15:30), Monday to Friday.

Patient Care Ratios

The Operating Room maintains a patient ratio of 1:1.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of Operating Room experience required.
  • Experience in a Level II trauma center is required.
  • Experience in a teaching hospital and Level I trauma center is preferred.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.

Weekend and On-Call Requirements

  • Every other weekend is required.
  • On-call duties are required based on unit needs.

Certifications Required

  • BLS certification is required.
  • Completion of a 16-hour Maryland-approved trauma course is required.
  • 8 hours of annual trauma continuing education units (CEUs) are required.
  • ACLS, NIH, and PALS certifications are preferred.

Floating Requirements

All clinicians are expected to float within their scope to meet facility needs.

Block Scheduling

The facility does not accommodate block scheduling.

Local Candidates

Local candidates are accepted.

Licensure Requirements

A Maryland or compact RN license is required upon submission.

Time Off Restrictions

  • 14 days or less of request time off (RTO) is automatically approved.
  • Every other winter and summer holiday is required; RTO is not approved during these times.
  • No RTO on hard-to-fill days, such as Easter, Mother's Day, and Father's Day.

Unit Information

This position is within a General Operating Room setting. The OR averages approximately 40 cases per day and provides care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. The RN will function as a member of the patient care team, delivering safe, age-appropriate care while serving as a resource for patients and families. The Operating Room utilizes advanced technology, minimally invasive techniques, evidence-based practices, and encourages surgical education and interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Proficiency in multiple surgical specialties, including Trauma, ENT, Colorectal, Plastics, Neurosurgery, Surgical Oncology, Oral/Dental, Laparoscopic Procedures, Urology, Ophthalmology, GYN, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Robotics, Vascular, and Thoracic procedures is required.
  • General Operating Room and Trauma experience are required.
  • Case experience must include thoracic procedures, ENT procedures, endoscopic procedures, general surgery, gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, and trauma.
  • Experience with emergency OR response, fire safety, malignant hyperthermia, and latex allergy precautions is essential.
  • Familiarity with electrosurgical units, fiber-optic equipment, and Steris equipment is required.

Charting System

The charting system utilized is Cerner/Surginet.

Scrub Requirement

Scrubs are provided to staff.
