Registered Nurse / Operating Room

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join the Operating Room team. This role involves providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a dynamic surgical environment.

Shift Information

  • 40 hours per week
  • 2 shifts of 12 hours: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, varying Monday to Friday
  • 2 shifts of 8 hours: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, every Saturday and Sunday

Patient Care Ratios

The Operating Room maintains a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:1.

Experience Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A minimum of 2 years of Operating Room experience
  • Experience in a Level II trauma center
  • Preferred experience in a teaching hospital and Level I trauma setting

Weekend and On-Call Requirements

  • The position requires availability every Saturday and Sunday.
  • On-call duties are based on unit needs.

Certifications Required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • 16-hour Maryland-approved trauma course
  • 8 hours of annual trauma Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), National Institutes of Health (NIH) Stroke certification, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are preferred.

Floating Requirements

All clinicians may be required to float to meet facility needs within their scope of practice.

Block Scheduling

Block schedules are not accommodated.

Local Candidates

Local candidates are accepted.

Licensure Requirement

A Maryland or compact RN license is required upon submission.

Time Off Restrictions

  • The system will automatically approve 14 days or less of requests for time off (RTO).
  • Holidays during winter and summer are required with no RTO approved.
  • No RTO will be approved on critical days such as Easter, Mother's Day, and Father's Day.

Unit Information

This is a General Operating Room position that averages approximately 40 cases per day. The department serves pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients and utilizes advanced technology including minimally invasive techniques. The RN will function as a key member of the care team, delivering safe and age-appropriate care while serving as a resource for patients and families.

Experience with emergency OR response, fire safety protocols, management of malignant hyperthermia, and latex allergy precautions is a requirement. Familiarity with electrosurgical units, fiber-optic equipment, and Steris equipment is also essential.

Charting System

The charting system used is Cerner/Surginet.

Scrub Requirement

Scrubs are provided for all staff.
