Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse – Medical Oncology Progressive Care Unit – Ohio

Start Date: October 19, 2026

Schedule: 12-hour shifts (Day/Night rotation or Night shifts); staffing ratios of 1:3 for PCU patients and 1:4-5 for Med-Surg Telemetry patients. Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on department needs. Weekend shifts are variable based on unit needs. 72 hours of orientation provided.

Highlights:

• Work in a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care
• Oncology experience preferred but not required – nurses with ICU and PCU backgrounds excel in this role
• Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses with high acuity PCU and some Med-Surg patients
• Epic charting system with GE telemetry monitoring, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, and PCA pumps
• Strong interdisciplinary support including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, Rapid Response Teams, and more
• Float to units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed; pediatric patients are extremely rare and typically cared for by permanent staff

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• Current acute care experience required (must be actively working in the last 12 months)
• Valid RN license (Compact or Ohio state license required at time of submission)
• Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Education from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required
• 2 professional references required: at least one from a manager/director or formal leadership capacity

Required Skills:

• Interpretation of dysrhythmias and use of rapid response teams
• Accessing and managing ports, central line care/management, PICC line management, and starting IVs
• Blood product administration and feeding tube care and management
• Heparin protocols, managing cardiac drips (no titration), and PCA pump management
• Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), BiPAP/CPAP, and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
• Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) and tracheostomy management
• Continuous bladder irrigation and isolation precautions/PPE protocols

Preferred Skills:

• Management of dysrhythmias and titration of cardiac and insulin drips
• IV insulin protocols and phlebotomy
• Chemotherapy administration and monitoring
• Wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, and surgical drain management
• Non-invasive airway management
