Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year in Oncology License: Current nursing license required Certifications: - ACLS - BLS - Chemotherapy certification Must-Have: - Oncology experience required - Administration of chemotherapy experience - Accessing and managing ports experience - Administration of blood and blood products experience Description: The Registered Nurse will work in a specialized oncology unit. Oncology experience is required. BMT Oncology experience is preferred. The nurse must pass the EKG exam. Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias are necessary. Floating to other oncology departments as needed is required. There is a patient ratio of 4:1 for all shifts. Average daily census is 30 patients, with a total of 32 beds/rooms. Every other weekend commitment is required. The nurse will be involved in auto stem cell transplants and chemotherapy administration. Chemotherapy administration certification (ONS/ONCC) is required. Telemetry interpretation and monitoring are essential skills. The candidate must be skilled in accessing and managing ports. Experience with central line blood draws and PICC line care is necessary. Skills in starting and maintaining IVs, administering antibiotics and antiemetics, and Foley catheter insertion and management are needed. Isolation precautions and telemetry interpretation are critical components of care. This role will involve management and disposal of cytotoxic spills, recognizing and communicating abnormal lab values, and monitoring patients for side effects. The nurse will work with interdisciplinary teams including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation. The patient population includes adults with conditions related to blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. The nurse will manage complications from blood cancers, including graft-versus-host disease and acute tumor lysis syndrome. The nurse will be responsible for continuous infusion of chemotherapy and managing PCA pumps. This position requires a strong foundation in inpatient oncology care.
