Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Neuro ICU Registered Nurse to join our team. This position involves providing specialized care to patients in a comprehensive stroke center, handling a variety of neurological and critical care cases.

Required Skills and Certifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Neuro ICU.
  • Experience with stroke patients is highly valued, as this population represents a significant portion of our cases.
  • Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIH.
  • Clinical skills: Vents, IV start, neuro assessments, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, blood product administration, central line care, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, post-neurosurgery management, and care of ventilated patients.

Preferred Skills

  • Arterial line management.

Job Details

  • Ratios: Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 2:1, with the possibility of flexing to 3:1 during high census periods.
  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 - 07:15.
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks, potentially extending until the end of February.
  • RTO: Maximum of 7 days for auto offers.
  • Call Requirement: None required.
  • Float Requirement: Yes, flexibility to float as needed.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.

Patient Population

As a comprehensive stroke center, we manage a diverse array of critical conditions, including:

  • Ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (including SAH)
  • Subdural hematomas (SDH)
  • Craniotomies
  • Carotid stents and endarterectomies
  • Aneurysm coiling and clipping
  • Seizures and management of myasthenia gravis
  • Monitoring with external ventricular drains (EVD), lumbar drains (LD), and Camino devices for ICP.

Special Equipment

  • External ventricular drains (EVD)
  • Lumbar drains (LD)
  • Camino for ICP monitoring
  • LICOX and NICOM
  • Arctic Sun for temperature management

Unit Orientation

New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation program lasting 24 hours, which may be scheduled across two consecutive days or nights.

Scrubs

Standard scrub attire is navy blue and white.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must successfully pass EKG testing prior to commencement of the role.
