Job Opportunity – Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse – North Carolina

Start Date: October 2026

Location: Coastal North Carolina

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15), 36 or 48 hours per week; every other weekend required; holiday rotation required

Highlights:

  • General medical/surgical patient population serving adults and geriatrics with a daily census of approximately 43
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6-7 for night shift
  • Epic EMR system with Pyxis medication management
  • 13-26 week contract assignments available
  • Charge nurse experience preferred for night shift roles
  • 24-hour orientation program with comprehensive unit support

Requirements:

  • Active RN license (North Carolina or Compact state)
  • Minimum 2 years of medical/surgical nursing experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must pass EKG interpretation testing prior to contract start
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification preferred
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Ability to work holidays and participate in inclement weather/emergency response teams
  • Willingness to float to similar units as needed
  • Must complete 8-10 hours of pre-start online modules (non-billable)

Clinical Skills & Procedures:

  • Heparin drip management
  • Wound vacuum dressing changes
  • High-flow oxygen therapy
  • Limited BiPAP support with respiratory team assistance
  • Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
  • IV therapy, peripheral line management, and insulin protocols
  • General wound care and surgical drain management

Additional Information:

  • Required to attend monthly unit team meetings (scheduled for 4th Wednesday of most months at 17:30; night shift meetings held Friday mornings at 07:30)
  • Up to 7 days of requested time off may be approved (excluding holidays and first week)
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays during assignment
  • Navy scrubs required (not provided)
  • May be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team for emergency preparedness
  • Call coverage required if placed on call for pre-scheduled shifts
