Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a fast-paced 48-bed inpatient Medical Surgical / Telemetry unit under a primary care nursing model
- Manage a diverse surgical patient population including total joint replacements, neuro-surgical cases, ostomies, hernia repairs, vascular procedures, and sepsis
- Administer and monitor TPN, lipids, IV antibiotics, PCA pumps, narcotic medications, and epidurals; titrate heparin drips per protocol
- Interpret telemetry strips independently; unit utilizes Draeger telemetry monitors with monitor tech support
- Collaborate with LPNs, CNAs, virtual admission/discharge nurses, and respiratory therapy to support patient flow and care delivery
- Float to like units as needed; if floated to higher-acuity areas, role would function in a support capacity without a patient assignment
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license valid in Illinois
- BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of surgical nursing experience required
- Total joint replacement experience required
- EPIC EMR experience required; facility is undergoing an EPIC conversion in Q2 2026
- Proficiency with PCA pumps, reversal agents (e.g., Narcan), sepsis management protocols, and TPN/lipid administration

Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with heparin drip titration per protocol
- Familiarity with vascular surgical patients including fem-pop bypass, BKA/AKA, and dialysis catheter care
- Comfort working in a high-volume environment with up to 8–12 surgical admissions per day alongside concurrent discharges
- Experience with CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow oxygen equipment in a med-surg setting
