Medical Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) to join a dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have experience in acute care settings and a strong understanding of telemetry monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients in a telemetry unit, ensuring their comfort and safety.
• Monitor vital signs, assess patient conditions, and implement care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to provide quality care.
• Assist with the management of patient medication and depending on patient needs, communicate with physician staff for any necessary interventions.
• Utilize critical thinking skills to respond to patient changes and medical emergencies.
• Participate in the orientation and training of new staff.

Patient Care Information

• This unit features 24 inpatient beds with the capacity for 10 observation/day surgeries.
• Patient-to-nurse ratios are generally 5:1 during the day shift and 6:1 overnight.
• Common diagnoses include NHP, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, GU, pacemaker, sepsis, and day surgical procedures such as orthopedics and cholecystectomies.

Qualifications

• Current and valid BLS certification is required; ACLS certification is preferred.
• A minimum of one year of experience in medical-surgical telemetry nursing is essential.
• Familiarity with specific procedures such as TURPS-CBI is highly appreciated.
• Candidates with experience in Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 facilities are preferred.
• Must be capable of performing IV starts independently, as there is no IV team on-site.

Work Environment

• This position involves 12-hour shifts with potential for self-scheduling, although blocking requests may not be guaranteed.
• Weekend rotations are required, specifically every other weekend, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
• Holiday coverage is also expected, with a commitment of working 2 out of 3 holidays.
• Candidates must be flexible and willing to float to similar units as needed.

Orientation and Training

• Orientation includes an 8-hour computer education session on day one followed by on-the-job shadowing.
• A full 12-hour shift of orientation will be provided on the second day, with independent work starting on day three.
