Registered Nurse (RN) - MedSurg/Telemetry

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse with MedSurg and Telemetry experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing excellent patient care, particularly for patients with neurological conditions. The position requires the ability to work nights and includes floating to other Medical/Surgical and Telemetry areas as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients, primarily focusing on stroke and neurosurgery.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry for dysrhythmias, managing patient responses accordingly.
• Assist in the treatment and care of patients with a variety of neurological diagnoses, including epilepsy and hematomas.
• Participate in patient education and support initiatives.
• Perform IV starts and administer medication as prescribed.
• Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Adhere to unit policies regarding scheduling, including weekend work and make-up shifts as necessary.
• Engage in continuous learning and professional development, including passing EKG testing prior to starting the role.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of direct MedSurg experience.
• Previous traveler experience with at least 2 successful contracts is required; 1st time travelers will not be accepted.
• Current certifications: BCLS, NIH Stroke scale, and NIHSS. ACLS certification preferred but not required.
• Strong skills in IV start and telemetry, with the ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias.
• Experience in a neurosurgical setting is highly preferred.

Shift and Scheduling

• Available shifts: 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15).
• Traveler must work every other weekend.
• Ability to float to other Medical/Surgical and Telemetry areas, including COVID care units, as needed.
• All calls for scheduled shifts must be made up within the same week or at the end of the contract.

Special Unit Information

• The unit specializes in caring for neurological patients, with a focus on stroke care.
• There is a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU); additional training may be required for participating nurses.
• Daily patient census is approximately 42, with 43 available rooms/beds.
• Utilizes PYXIS and EPIC systems for medication management and patient records.

Uniform Requirement

Scrubs are navy in color.

Orientation

A thorough 36-hour orientation will be provided to ensure the integration and success of nursing staff in the unit.
