Registered Nurse / Observation

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse for our Observation Unit. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality patient care while adhering to established protocols and standards. This position primarily involves monitoring patients admitted for evaluation and treatment, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout their stay.

Patient Ratios

  • Patient ratio: 1:5

Experience Requirements

  • 2 years of RN experience required
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred

Weekend Requirement

Every other weekend availability is required.

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification
  • Prophecy Relias Advanced EKG assessment
  • 4 hours of annual stroke continuing education

Floating Requirements

Floating is not routinely required; however, it may occur based on hospital needs.

Local Candidates

Local candidates are accepted for this position.

Licensure Requirements

A Maryland or compact RN license is required upon submission.

Time Off Restrictions

  • Auto-approval for 14 days or less of requested time off (RTO).
  • Every other winter and summer holiday are required; RTO is not approved during these periods.
  • No RTO on high-demand days such as Easter, Mother's Day, and Father's Day.

Unit Information

  • This position is located in a 20-bed Observation Unit.
  • The average daily census is approximately 20 patients.
  • The unit serves adult and geriatric patients, primarily admitted from the Emergency Department for further monitoring and testing.

Additional Experience Requirements

  • Cardiac Telemetry and PCU/Stepdown experience required.
  • Strong dysrhythmia interpretation and management experience required.
  • On-unit telemetry monitoring experience is mandatory.
  • Experience with blood product administration, central line, peripheral line, and PICC line management is required.
  • Familiarity with heparin protocol and non-titratable cardiac drips is needed.
  • Experience with CVA, seizure disorders, and substance withdrawal is required.

Charting System

The charting system used is Cerner.

Scrub Color

Navy blue scrubs are required.

Shift Details

This position requires night shifts, consisting of three 12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:30.
